Exhibition: 'Fructous'
2nd - 25th June, 2006
Jill Symes’ collection of recent studio works entitled
‘Fructous’, consists of a wide variety of ceramic vessels and
sculptural works, all showing developed hand building skills
and a mature understanding of the exciting possibilities of
earthenware glazing techniques.
A sense of the organic is evoked by this long established
Melbourne-based ceramist as the use of ancient handcrafting methods
allow her to feel the natural rhythms of her media, emphasized by
the application of an earthy palette and a tactile combination of
soft lines and natural curves.
Exhibited extensively throughout Victoria for over twenty five
years, Symes’ presents us with a diverse range of ceramic objets
d’art for this exhibition, where sensual forms, earth materials
and lively patterns and colour come together to produce a series of
finely crafted and highly prized artworks.
